... A central issue that comes into play is the status that we accord to propositions that proceed from our faith commitment. Do we consider these to have equal weight with others? For example, do we consider the propositions that Christ was born of a virgin, that he was God incarnate, that he died and in three days was resurrected to be historical facts on a par with the assassination of Lincoln or the fall of the Roman empire, even though some of the former may not be demonstrable in the same way that some of the latter are? If not, in what sense can we say that we truly believe the former?
